Is the engine clean? Any leaking oil? Did you do a compression check? It now has 299,000 miles. Strike One.

Why did it turn off a couple times? Is it an automatic of 5 Speed transmission?
Strike Two

If you have to ask here about buying a car that is 25 years old, with 299,xxx miles. Then you probably have no idea how much it really is going to cost in time and money to fix. Parts for a 25 year old car are expensive and some are harder to find if the part is still exists. Strike Three

Unless it was meticulously maintain by a Toyota Dealership with records to show.
Kick it to the curb.

please don't take this the wrong way..

1. don't expect to buy a 25 year old car and not fix anything.
2. a car that old will have some dents and rusts unless you buy a show car.
3. when you buy a car that old and has that many miles, expect to do engine rebuild or if the compression is still ok do at least regular maintenance work. ie, timing belt, spark plug, wires, etc.
4. what engine is in the car?
5. if you're looking for a cheap reliable commuter, this is not it.
6. interior on old cars are very important when restoring, hence the reason why the car is a bit pricey. the owner prolly knows this.
7. lastly, post pictures so we can tell you how much you should pay.

Did Stevie Wonder paint that car? I would rather blow $900 on bus fare than sink money into a car that old.

Seriously - No matter what you buy for $900, you will probably have to put some cash into it to make a reliable daily driver. Why not find something newer?
