1989 Corolla no A/C, install possible?

Hey guys I just signed up here to ask a quick question and I hope that maybe someone has done this before as well.

My 1989 Corolla doesn't have A/C. If I were to go to a junkyard or pick up a new A/C unit would it be possible to install it into my car?

Thanks guys,

Ryan

you would have to know eactly what parts you were looking for.... even then, the job is daunting, but yes it could be done, but you must make sure al the wiring is in place, which the wiring harness might alreay be there just unused, but I am not totally sure all the wiring is there.. in you car, ready for the parts. If you attempt this I would say go to an a/c forum and get help there too.

like I said, if you don't know what you need you might miss getting those parts and overlook crucial parts. You wil need a new / rebuilt compressor with clutch, and new expansion valve, all new o-rings...maybe new condensor... the evaporator can be used,t he drier must be brand new .. but there are parts hidden like the relay wring idle-up circuit... electronics inside the car under the dash and more.. the plumbing too just a huge job...

Yes, research the issue then make sure you get all the parts. The A/C system has more then just the compressor, etc, but systems to idle up the engine when it turns on, etc. Might find a junk car of the same year with A/C and then pull every thing related to the A/C system at once. Take lots of photos when tearing the old car apart so you will know where everything goes.

research will not be off all that great help, you would need to know all the part exactly, because just looking under the hood wont get you everything, not everything is out in the open..

Thanx for the replies guys.

I actually found something I didn't know existed, a car fan that plugs into the cigarette lighter. Much, much, more simple (I now know).
