hey wassup guys, its been a while, i believe there was an aftermarket thread on shocks and struts already, but IIRC, it was a while ago. So, for the update, what do you guys think about KYB and Tokico? The kyb are a lil cheaper, but not by much, only about $50 or so, so my decision won't change much. I'm dropping the car soon, no more than 2", maybe less. I hear the kyb makes some noise if combined with certain lowering springs(like eibach). Time for new shocks/struts guys, lend me your reviews!! oh yeah, and chime in here too if you recommend something different other than kyb and tokico. 93-97 corollas.
I've had both. KYB rides just as soft as stock. For performance they suck. Tokico rides noticeable firmer than stock or KYB and the performance is great.. Also, in my experience Tokico lasts longer with lowering springs. BTW I ride on Tein H-techs.
your struts/springs should never make noise whoever or wherever you heard that from did not instal them correctly, every car has or is suppossed to have a rubber piece between the spring, & strut.. This is what takes care of the noises...
i have KYB's all around & i regret getting the Gr2's in the Rear because they are super soft !!!
if you are going to lower the car... & im gunna say this because i was told this over & over, dont half ass the suspenssion because you will be dissapointed & will only want to upgrade later... now ive got all the money into the Gr-2's instead of buying Koni's or Tokico !
Ohh and make sure you figure in Strut mounts !! these are a great thing to replace as long as you have the suspenssion apart !!

I found the GR2s to be way harder than stock yet softer for performance, of course that's paired with APEX springs, I wonder what the diff would be with OEM springs.
if they were put on stock springs, the struts would perform like they are suposed to, Gr-2's aint supossed to be lowered on, this throws the struts out of there performance range.. i too wouldnt know as i have Apex springs as well

True.. I have OEM plus Apex springs on the 90 GTS though and you can tell the difference between the struts, KYB is firmer where as the OEM struts are saggier and have a floatier feeling.
i recomend not to drop your car more than like an 1 1/2" max lowering i would go is 1 3/4 when you get that low the front struts dont have enough room to move they just bottom out all the time
but thats for the ae92 what ever the eibach springs lower it should be the ideal height/safe
^ ive lowered more than that im sure, who knows the actual drop.. but cut your bump stops in half & you should be okay.. i havnt hit mine at all.. but i have the AGX's so i guess i dont count
