2003 corolla headlamps

hey i recently noticed something...
i was driving at night, it was dark, ( i forgot to turn on my headlights) so i did, and i noticed that there was hardly any difference.
so i went home and faced my car to my garage door to test it out again and ya theres is hardly a difference with daytime running lights and having my headlights on...

are there any other 2003 corolla s drivers out there who noticed this?
maybe it's normal...

Well yeah you don't have separate lights for your DRLs, it just turns on the low beams. The only difference as far as I know is that the regular lights bring up the parking lights as well.

In daytime there is resistor in series (voltage divider) with the lights so they are on but not 'quite' as bright to keep the filament a bit cooler so it lasts longer. There is only the slightest difference.

DRLs are actually your high beams running on reduced voltage. so rezzle is right.

Make sure you turn your lighting stock 2 notches to get your low beams. 1 notch = only parking lights

I don't think the DRLs are the high beams. I forget to turn on my lights some evenings because of the DRLs, but when I do turn my lights on, I never notice the beam go from high to low... Maybe I'm just un-observent

I didn't know about the resister though, that's cool.

When they first came out manufacturers used to use lthe high beams but found they were quite irratating in the twilight hours when some folks were slow to turn on the headlights. So most now use either a seperate light or low beams.

but i must insist it is the highbeam.
Well not actually, but this is how it works, since the 03 has a seperate Bulb for LOW and HIGH Beams, the DRLs are actually the Highbeam Bulbs running at probably 6-8 Volts.

oh yea, and it is model specific, each car is different. But my Camry has the same setup.
