Hi,
I am getting ready to R&R a front wheel bearing on 1989 Toyota Corolla SR5. I am going to replace the the Right side half-axle. (the right side bearing and half-axle was done last year). I did not hcage the tranny axle seal on that side last year, so when I pull the right side hub and bearing, I will also pul the left side axle and R&R that seal, it has a tiny leak.
I usually try to use seal pullers, I rent them from places like AutoZone. But sometimes, the seal pullers are totally worthless. I have done work on cars going back to the 1950's . I am used to pulling and replacing seals of all types. But, not on this particular car. I would liek to know if I should just jam the seal with a screwdriver to pop it out, ? How do you guys do these transverse tranny seals, with the tranny still in the car. If it were not in the car and out in the open it would be so damned easy. But in the car, no room, and laying under the car beating and pulling of crap, makes it so damned difficult.
Anyone have lots of experience with pulling the old seals? Putting the new ones in should be ok, as long as there is enough room to push them in straight. I was planning on just driving the new one on with a sockect and a rubber mallet.
back to pulling the seals... how do you guys do it with the tranny still in the car.... the screw driver and hammer method?? or??
Thanx..
