Help Please!

I Need Help.

My Friend's 2005 Corolla "Maintenance Required" Light On. There Is A Grinding Noise When You Start The Vehicle And A Similar Noise When You Accelerate. There Is No Under Carriage Damage.

Any Ideas On Where To Check?

Thanks In Advance.

John

The maintenance light is just telling you that you need to change the oil. You can turn the light off by yourself. You need to be more specific about the grinding noise. Does it sound like the starter is grinding and turning on by itself when you are driving. Does it sound like the same noise when you start the car.

The Grinding Sounds Similar When I Had A Loose Plate Under My Infiniti.

It's Got Roughly 30K Miles So Major Engine Problems I Doubt.

The Grinding Is Like Something Is Rubbing Against The Bottom. Painful For Me To Hear.

So "Maintenance Required" Is Just The Oil? Not Brakes, ATF Fluid, Ect.

Thanks In Advance.

John

You Mentioned The Starter. She Claims She Hears The Tires But She's Insane Because It's Not That.

I Figured A CV Joint But That Wouldn't Explain It Grinding At Start.

Maybe a loose heat shield but this is hard to diagnose without actually hearing the noise. I'm not sure what it could be.

Where Is The Heat Shield Located? In Front Of The Dash?

Could You Please Describe It?

Thanks.

John

Isn't the vehicle still under warranty? If so, let the stealer figure it out.

Alternator bearings possibly?
loose belts?

Open the hood and have someone else start the car and see if you can isolate the area the noise is comming from.

Starter shaft broken, it slips when you try to start it, and its riding on the flywheel when you accelerate because the slight torque of the motor makes it rub, same thing happened to mine.
