lucky star sells their 20v and jdm gze for about 1400. however, they do not have harnesses or ecus!! i can get a 20v ecu from my buddy in Oz at around $150 cdn. remember kev, if you do a 20v transplant, you have to fabricate your own water lines, and cut a hole in the fire wall or get a dli. also, fuel lines have to be fabricated and you'll have to get a custom exhaust manifold/header.

i can do the transplant for you...beit 4age, 4agze or 20v (mind you i've never done a 20v, so it would take longer in order to figure out all the fabrication and where it fits.)But i've done enough 4age engine pulls that its like clockwork.

stick with a bluehat 4age to get it on the rod....save up your peenies and then go from there.

SR5boy: I'm going to keep my car, but thanks for your interest. Good luck in finding one.

Everyone else: Thanks for your offerings to help out with an engine swap. It's too late now, I've bought a head already. All I need to do now, is to save up and do a head swap. This is hell, I hate my AE86.

Thanks,
Kevin
(I wish I bought a S13)

kev, you have to understand that the more negativity you inflict on your car, the worse things will get. its sound flakey but its true...once you start bad mouthing and neglecting it, the car starts to break down.

its an old car....almost as old as you. so yes, patience is needed. you prolly won;t have the car finished to your ideal goal not untill the next few years. it takes time and money. do a lot of reasearch...i mean alot! ask tonnes of questions before you do anything because being an old car, the easiest and cheapest way is not always the most obvious. patience kev, you'll get through this....and exploit me and andrew to the fullest....there's nothing like free help.

Haha, well, I still hate it. I was just kidding.. maybe. I hate how it turned out. I'm the only one out of everyeone to have my head cracked. That's why I'm dissapointed.

I think I know what the problem is, with the rear brake. Elite did something wrong when they replaced my driver-side rear caliper (wrong part maybe?). IT WAS FINE BEFORE THAT! They did some changes to the rear caliper and I'm going to check if it's okay today (I can bet anyone that the problem still exists). If that doesn't work, I'm getting a used caliper from another car. sh**, I'm dissapointed in Elite.. and I had to pay for this junk useless caliper too. It cost so MUCH!!!!!!!

My head is ready to be swapped. I think Elite has evened out the surface and now everything is ready to be swapped. I should get some quotes from different shops.

Kevin

a common brake caliper should be an easy fix tho.. anyone with a hint of skill can do it right.. unless something is sticking or the caliper is just seized..and not freeing up..

anyways, andrew

kevin, s13 will have their fair share of problemns too....besides, they don't even have the reliable and bullet proof sr20det...the ka is a useless tit.

trust me, every ae owner has/had their problems. I've gone through three motors...first one headgasket blew, second one the distributor teeth ground against the exhaust cam, mashed up one of the valves, and spat it out throught the manifold...not good.

george has blown two motors...that sh** is gonna happen...its a 15 year old car!!!!!

whats wrong with your brakes? what sthe problem? like andrew said, anyone with half a brain should be able to install a rear caliper. bring it by my place and we'll look at it for you.

kevin, before you go to all the shops and buy things and get them to do the work....ask around about the problem, get info, get opinions....you're gonna burn up all your money if you think buying new parts will solve your problem....feel free to ask me anything or even andrew or george.

When i was in the canadian armed forces we learnt that even the best equipement breaks after that long.I remeber that the Leopard c1 tanks we drove where 1974 models refited in 1992 and they broke down too but we drove them hard as hell and they kept on going and are still in servise to this day.

hmmm...what are these cars worth,

Well I don't mind sinking $10k plus into my car.

I figure I had a '98 integra GSR, price of the car new was $28000, plus enough decent suspension pieces to get rid of the understeer $4000 + enough engine mods to satisfy my needs, hmm another $5000, oh and lets not forget standard bolt-ons like shorty shifter, wheels and tires etc. probably antoher $3000. So in total that's over $40k.

I can spend 10k on my AE86 and it's way more fun to drive, much more unique, and it'll be just as quick. It's not an investment, it's a toy and hobby, it's a small price to pay for a load of fun.

I dumped the Integra because of front wheel drive ( my two cars before were rear drive corollas).

My perspective. Just be thankful your not trying to replace a head on an expensive new import with a more exotic engine!

BTW I may have a re-ringed bottom end with low k's to part with this winter. Let me know. It's strong, if you want to see how strong just come for a spin in my car.

Neil
