Yeah those palces have free code reading I believe. Theyll even look in the reference book with you to tell you what the code means, because after all, they wanna seel you the part to fix the car.

indeed...though you can also google the codes specific to your vehicle. i believe you've got an OBD-II vehicle, in which case not only will it be easy to read but it'll be easy to diagnose. google OBD-II Toyota codes.

Yeah mid 95 they went to OBD2 if so you need a code reader if its a OBD1 then all you need is a wire and then count the blinks on your check engine light...
the easiest way to tell is probably check the sticker on the underside of the hood it should tell you, if not then do you have an EGR valve...
EGR valve present = OBD2
No EGR = OBD1

Checked under the hood. Found no stickers that said anything about OBD-II.
Where would the EGR valve be on this vehicle?
It may have OBD-II, because I just recently found a panel in the driver's side that I have never looked in, or read about in the manual. I open it up and see what it is.
you pull the code from under the steering wheel...there's a plug that you'll plug the code reader into. feel around till you find it...it's hard to miss.
i recommend you purchase a manual for your vehicle, as well...Haynes makes a decent one. you can get that at an auto part store, so pick one up when you go to borrow the code reader.

Why would I go to a website without having the tools to check the problem?
I've been trying forever to find a Haynes or Chiltons manual for htis car. But they are all out around me.
buy it online? did you borrow a code reader yet? you know the code doesn't stay there forever...i think you have something like 50 starts before the code erases.

i don't know if thats always true. i know i have an egr valve (replaced it twice) and yet no port under the steering wheel to plug a code reader into but i do have one uder the hood that an obd 2 code reader end does not fit but a obd 1 does fit
