thought the black top was the best direct swap since it's more powerful than the silver top.

Best swap would be w/e the most powerful motor you could shove in there? no? 3sgte seems like a popular idea now. Nissan motors and so on

The LSX block from GMPP.

It can withstand up to 2500hp. Does that suit your need?

it all depends on what exactly you want...blacktops are quick/high reving, a little extra hp, newer, but usually the most expensive of the 4a's, silvertop's rev a little less, but that's due to the fact they have stronger internals, and can handle low boost due to a lower comp. ratio, and are usually a decent price. 4agze's will obviously have more torque, they tend to be higher in price, good platform to make big power. with a 3sgte it'll obviously fly, but your cars balance will be thrown off due to the larger engine, it won't just bolt in, and will run you more money.

as for black vs silver tops EverAE hit the nail on the head but we are talking about 5 HP difference, thats why i said silver insted of black. A stronger foundation for better relibilty under stress. and as for the 4a-gze although the blocks are the same, the heads are not. yamaha did a great job designing the head the extra vavle made the world of difference when it comes to hp. now if you wanted to swap a silvertop and add the supercharger its also plug and play and would be making somewhere around 220 hp stock. get a front clip so you have the axles mounts and what have you. it will be worth the extra money.

I thought the Blacktop has an ITB feul injection system, and the silvertop does not.

Both the BT and ST 20V feature Individual Throttle Bodies, with the trumpets being 2mm bigger on the BT

ya depending on the 20V generation they'll have either a twin (early silvertop) or single link (2nd gen ST and BT) but they all have itb's. just another thing to note, they both have VVT, but the 2nd gen ST and BT's VVT activates by TPS, and the early ST's activate at a certain rpm, iirc...

You should do alot of reasearch, if you are seriously considering any of the swaps mentioned... What in your head would mean its the best swap ? Best stock HP, best Peak,torque,cost,reliability,upgradable... This also boils down to what you want to do with the car.. DD,Street,Drag,AutoX...

Your options will most likely boil down to the Silvertop or 4agze sure the 3sgte is an option but why..

most important thing you can do is to do your dam homework... This topic has been beaten to death, & there is allready plenty of information on this forum regarding these engines..

3SGTE = FTW!!!

why?

- 2.0L boosted motor
- you can get parts from any US/Canadian dealerships
- you're almost at 200whp off the bat
- did i mention it's a 2.0L BOOSTED motor?

suspension? you can always compensate by upgrading the suspension geometry right after the swap. which your supposed to do anyways. very few that do any kinda swap in an AE92stays with stock suspension anyways. brakes is also important.

i've had few 4A-GEs but once you feel the powah of a 3SGTE, there's no turning back.. well there is if you don't have any money, hahaha~!
