Unhappy Need help after a rebuild

I just finished reassembling my 98 Prizm with the 1ZZFE after replacing the piston rings and a valve job. When I try to start the car, it gives me an occasional sputter, but otherwise nothing. When I hold down the gas about 1/2, it fires and idles at about 2800 rpm. Even after warm, it won't drop below 2800 rpm. I didn't let it run more than 3 min or so because I was afraid of overheating.

First thing I thought was that I may have skipped a gear in my timing, but I double checked and everything looked good. The only CEL I get is a random cylinder misfire on #4. Plug and wire look good, so I think that may be an after effect of the real issue.

Any ideas???

I'll double check the lines again, but I did have a picture and thought everything went back to where it came from. There aren't too many to figure out on this engine - only a handful around the throttle/intake area.

use the picture on the underside of the hood for the vaccum lines. If those lines check out right, look into timing issues. Being that it revs at 2800 constantly I think you mixed one of the vaccum lines up.

I'm assuming if my timing was off, it would be throwing a code. The only thing my scanner picked up was a P0304 - cylinder #4 misfire. I'm also guessing vacuum hose is the probable culprit.

If I can't get the idle down under 2800 rpm, I'll be posting a clutch replacement thread soon

Well - all of the vacuum lines check out. It's running with an obvious miss around 2500 rpm consistantly. I did a compression test, and I'm at 185-190 on all cylinders. I'm assuming I could still get good compression with the timing slightly off.

I pulled the valve cover again, and the timing marks on the cam sprokets line up the same way they did before I pulled it apart. The "pre-rebuild" timing picture is below. New is the same. I double checked that I'm at TDC on #1. The crank pulley is sitting right at the zero mark.

well then if the cam and crank are both at 0 then your fine. sounds like your throttle body turn down your throttle body idle and just check your gaskets for any leaks but i am almost sure it your vacuum line are fine but what runs to them are not
