Unhappy 95 Corolla Pulling Codes

Hello. First post. I've been having some issues with my 4afe. It has a tendancy to hesitate under load, usually in first gear. I get to about 15 MPH and I get a surge of power feels almost like twice as much. Also wont pass emissions. HC's are WAY to high. I think it's either that cat or the O2 sensor. Problem is I can't find any local shops that'll hook up a scan tool for less than 40 bucks, I don't' want a diag, I just want to know if my O2 sensor is shot. Is there a way I can pull codes on it and see?

Thanks.

Mike

check for moisture in the distributor cap. Also make sure the plug wires are not arching to ground. To pull codes take a wire and connect to terminals "TC and E1" of the diagnostic connector under the hood and turn on the key then count the flashes

I've replaced the cap and rotor. And replaced the plugs and wires twice. I learned the hard way not to get the cheap stuff. My first plugs were pretty burned the gap was about .08 too big, I know they were right when I put them in because I'm anal about stuff like that. I pulled the codes and got 22, which is my coolant temp sensor. It didn't bring up anything about the O2 sensor. Which leads me to believe that it is in fact my CAT.

sucks to hear of felines failing.

Anyway, this wire connection to TC and E1. What type of wire and does the CEL blink, or soemthing entirely else?
