Hey whats up guys, i just ran yesterday on my new corolla xrs on an 1/8 of a mile, and is stock, and i ran 10.328, is that a good time?? well mean while i love this car, i switch from a honda to this and im really happy with it, ok guys, if any of you have any sugestion let me know!!
Nice to see another XRS owner. Good to see you hit the race track and had some fun. Are you stock?
Regarding your time of 10.3, considering it was your first time, it is fairly decent. However, to run a 15.3 - 15.4 bone stock, you will have to bring the 1/8 mile down to well under 10.0 seconds.
I had been to the drag strip a few times last year and ran a best of 14.9@96 mph with intake/exhaust mods only with stock everything else. My 1/8th for this run was 9.8 secs. This year if I go back (I plan to focus on fun auto crossing and touge runs in the mountains instead since launching from 4500 rpm was hard on the clutch and tires), with the stickier and wide Kumho ZR-rated track tires and Tein spring on, I can maybe (then again, in theory) squeeze out a 14.6 secs.
Keep practicing especially launching and quick shifting. Maybe, start thinking about modding too. Have fun.

thanks bro, the only problem i been having is shifting 2nd because i came from a honda and im used to push it to my side every time im shifting to 2nd, but other than that im not that bad shifting every one love my driving skills lol, do you have any tips regard tire PSI and launch RPMs???, please let me know, and yes im fully stock!(other that i took the air filter out on the track ) im happy cause i just raced a civic si 2007 and i beat him 2 times off the hole and rolling! so im really happy of how my car perform!!!!! also im planning to put Falken azenis 225/50/16 and lower the car this will help a lot, btw doing 10.3 was HARD so i seriously dont think my car can do better than that since is fully stock, however i lower my tires to 23psi so i think it was too low, bro any tips will be more than welcome thanks again!!

What Honda did you drive before your XRS?
225/55/16 might make the tire walls a bit taller. In order to keep the stock rolling radius with the 16 inch rims so that your gear ratios are not affected, you will have to get the size I got for my Kumhos (215/50/16). The tire wall height is identical to stock and the difference is all in the width (1 inch wider tires compared to stock). If you really want to get 225 mm wide tires then you will have to 225/45/17 in order to keep the exact same rolling radius as stock.
Some helpful tips for stock car are (1/4 mile):
- Put the rear tires at 34 psi and front tires at only 19 psi (will keep weight on the driving wheels and with less tire pressure at the front wheels, gear will wind up a little quicker than stock, which will enable you to shift from 3rd to 4th well before you cross the finish line).
- I guess you know about taking the spare tire out and running with only 1/4 tank full.
- Launch from 4000 rpm or so. In order to control wheel spin, don't release the clutch suddenly. First only up till the grab point and once you feel the front tires are getting a bit traction, release clutch immediately and go pedal to the metal.
- XRS transmission is fairly notchy so you have to make sure you use proper forearm power through out the shift movement. Another trick is to apply a little force towards you (the driver) when you are shifting from 1st to 2nd. It will never get caught in the reverse gate. I switched to synthetic Redline MT-90 gear oil and it made the transmission a bit more smoother and less notchy.

Good tips !!! im planning to go to the track this friday again, because the track is 15 minutes away from me and i rather do that than street race...
I had several hondas before this, my first one was an Acura Integra LS, then i got an Civic Si (ex for america) with an 1.8 DOHC Non-vtec motor (LS), and then i got an Integra GS-R with last me for a week, before got stolen. But in my house there always have been a corolla, a 1999, 2000, a 2006 and mines that is a 2005 and we still have them all lol, BTW on the track i beat a Celica GT-S 00, i know he was a bad driver but i notice that in same gear we both stayed next to each other util my motor got to the Lift and then i started pulling on him, how is this possible if he got more HP than me???
BTW i was reading your parts, would you please recomend me wich one i should do first and then the following ones?
Nice. You have a long list of Honda you have owned in the past. There are tons of thing at this point you can do to your XRS to enhance performance. Depends on how much you want to spend. However, start with the basic bolt-ons (Cold Air Intake is the best value for the money since it gets good gains on the dyno compared to stock without costing much). The first time you hear it with CAI, you will be shocked. It is because the Toyota stock airbox is too restrictive in order keep the fuel economy up, muffle the sound in lift down and quite possibly production cost as well).
- Cold Air Intake: Injen CAI (highly recommended especially over SRI, use 2004 Matrix XRS. It is a perfect fit), Cosmo CAI for Corolla XRS.
- Short Ram Intake: Fujita F5 for Corolla XRS, AEM SRI.
- Exhaust: Greddy SP2 or Evo 2 axleback for Corolla XRS, Magnaflow full-catback (all models), Borla axleback (all models), Vibrant.
- Springs: Tein, Eibach, B & G, TRD etc.
- Flywheel/Clutch (reduces powertrain loss and car with Fidanza revs up faster than many street bikes): 7.5 Fidanza Celica GTS flywheel, ACT racing clutch for Celica GTS, RPS 9.5 lbs 2ZZ flywheel, Monkey Wrench Racing 10.5 lbs racing flywheel for 2ZZ).
- Tuning lift to 5500 rpm and redline to 8600 rpm (costs the most money to buy and dyno tune): Hydra 2ZZ EMS.
I have Injen CAI and Greddy SP2 and I am happy with both the sound and gains. Stock XRS dynos around 149 - 153 whp and with intake/exhaust it dynos close to 170 whp (yes, I have many dyno comparison charts documented). So these two are great things to start with since they will cost less than other mods and then you can do springs and wheels in this order. With the wide Kumho ZR-Rated track tires, the car basically stick to the road like Velcro both under hard acceleration and cornering.

Nice bro!! I see a lot of restriction, I already drove it with out a filter and trust me I was in shock when I hear that lift louder than vtec, now I like all those mods you listed, the exhaust I am trying my best to keep it stock, unless there is a non loud exhaust, the one I know is not loud is the gready SP, now if you know an other one not loud please let me know, I mean all I want is ride comfort before speed LOL. And one last question, wish spring is the most comfortable of all and the one who drop the car the most?, because that’s the only complain I have with the corolla (03-07) they are too high, I would really appreciate if you could answer these questions

Here is a little info regarding your questions. If you can wait until next weekend, I will take some pictures of my XRS so that you can see for yourself and decide how the wide track tires, springs and the Greddy exhaust suit the look of the car.
Exhaust:
Remember the sound of the exhaust is really generated from the engine. Not at the back. The muffler and exhaust tip can only change the tone, depth and pitch of the sound. Unless you go catless or without a muffler, all the aftermarket exhausts should sound very similar except the Magnaflow full catback since it increases the diameter from 2 inches to 2.25 inches throughout the piping as opposed to the axleback that increase it to 2.5 inches from the rear axle to the tip only. Having said that, Greddy SP2 sounds fabulous. It has a deep and throaty tone with a very low pitch. Put it in 6th and you will barely hear it. Borla should be roughly the same. So it boils down to looks since Greddy has a straight pipe from the muffler to the tip, it sticks out a lot while the Borla has a bent pipe from muffler to the tip. It does not bother me, but the sleeper looks definitely are compromised with the Greddy exhaust.
Besides, the straight exhaust tip in Greddy reduces back pressure a lot so it causes a bit of torque loss down low in the rpm range, but in lift Greddy is awesome for high rpm torque and sound. Borla is better for low end torque because of the bend, but not as good for high rpms. It is also better for people who require a discreet looking exhaust as well.
Springs:
I have had Tein H-Techs for over a month now that dropped my XRS by 1.8 inches in the back and 1.7 inches at the front. I am very happy with the choice since it feels very much like stock, except it is just lower. It looks so much more proportionate with almost no gaps in the fender and the wheels. With the sticky Kumho tires on, the body roll is almost non-existent on the car. I have to get an alignment next weekend by Toyota (you must get camber and alignment after a 1000 KM or around 800 miles once you put the springs on).
Tires:
Coming from the stock Michelin Pilot tires, I did my research and heard rave reviews of the Kumho ECSTA ASX track tires and they were much cheaper than comparable ultra high performance tires by Michelin, Dunlop etc. that charge too much for their brand name. Almost too good to be true. I sold my Michelins for $300 and bought these wide Kumho tires. Awesome tires. I love them. They are MUCH MUCH quieter than roaring Michelin tires that made highway driving miserable because of their noise, stick to the road like velcro and easy on the pocket and handle better than the Michelin tires.
Hope that helps.

A lot!!! lol thanks bro, now i feel better because i know more about this car , thanks for the help, i am going to open another thread about the DRLs, because i put HIDs and when i turn on the car the start blinking and it can burn it, and i have no choise but to have them on all day, Bro againg thanks for the answers and ill go for the tein spring for sure, but ill wait a lil more for the tires because they are pretty good condition and my next mod will be the CAI injen! before i do anything i will let you know to get your oppinion.
Im soooo happy!!! lmao
PS. i will be taking some pictures of the car on friday and some videos, so ill post them here, ill send u an IM or a PM to let you know when they are on!!

Good stuff. Glad to hear it helped. Injen intake is a great place to start with. It will give the most dramatic difference from stock as compared to other bolt-on mods for the price.
Keep an eye out for next weekend. I will put some pictures up of my XRS with all the mods in the "show your ride" section. I will PM you as well. It will help you make up your mind about the springs and exhaust. My next mod this year will be Blue batmobile's tail light overlays (dark tint on the rear lights).
