Question about KYB Strut Boot

Hello everyone,
I have a question that hopefully you can help me with. I am looking at getting new KYB's for my wifes 01 Corolla and as I am looking around I see that KYB makes a strut boot for their products. I was wondering how necessary these are, and if they are necessary, is it just for these struts (meaning if I buy the Tokicos I won't need them).

Another product by KYB I noticed was Strut Mounts. Is there a reason that the OEM ones can't be reused?

Thanks for any help or advice you can afford me!

if you orginal strut boots are okay (seeing as the car is an 01 i highly doubt anything is wrong with them) then you can just clean them up and re use them... as for strut mounts, you wanna check for cracks or wear in the bushing/bearings, its alot easier to replace these now then the tear the car apart once again just to replace the mounts..

Strut boots are just that, they'll fit any strut. As for the mounts, if you don't need to replace them, then don't; usually KYB stuff is comparable to OEM so unless your struts shake all over the place everytime you go over a bump, then you don't need to replace them.

i only needed to replace my front mounts, the rears are solid, to where the fronts have to move back & forth (therefore wear out & need to be replaced)

The KYB boots are split at one end and secured with a plastic tie lock, not sure what they call them. Another words they are kind of like dorky universal fit boots. I would not recommend them.

Front mounts - buy new ones or at least have them on hand when you begin the job. You don't want to be set back by having to order them if you discover they are bad. The rear mounts are solid and do not have any moving parts or bearings so your rear mounts are fine unless the car has been in an accident.

Refer to my previous post on my experience changing my struts, including a Toyota dealer to order from and a KYB online seller to avoid.

GOOD LUCK!
