Loud Roaring Coming From Back Wheel?

My mom has a mid 90's Corolla "Classic Edition" last month the back passenger side started making a loud roaring and knocking you know like the sound you get when u have a big knot in the tire??.. Maybe not, anyways she got a set of brand new tires hoping that was the problem well it wasnt, does anyone know what else it could be?

Thanks..

Cool

Rear wheels are easier to fix,, take off hub and take it to auto parts store with machine shop. Tell them you need to remove and replace the bearing and seals. Then bring it home, put it back on. $100.00 total. You must call and find out what autostore has the shop to do it, and find out if they have the parts in stock. Rear Wheel very easy compared to front. Of course if you don't have enough tools, or the know how, then you will be better off getting a shop to do all the work.
