1992 stuck in park?

It's stuck in park unless I use the shift override button. Anyone might know what could be causing this?

Look next to the gear shifter lever on the gear indicator cover. There is usually an override button or a small cover that can be gently pried off to expose a lever you press on. Use something like a screwdriver blade.

Check to see if you have brake lights. Most of these systems use the brake light switch that can fail or get out of adjustment.

Also check the posts at the end of this page, might help get an idea of what is going on.

Your assumption of the brake light was dead on, my brake light doesn't work i was just driving my friend home who lives down the street and it came on at some random times but for 99% percent of the time it was no go. So what will i need to do to remedy this situation

Think if you trace your brake pedal up towards the dash you'll find a switch. Either adjust it or replace it as needed.

Just to eliminate anything I replaced all the bulbs in the bracket in the trunk 4 x 1156s and 4 x 1157s. Now could this have to do with a fuse problem cause about 2 days before this happend one of my instrument panel light section went out (Vent, Heater, A/C Controls)

Try stoplight switch, see link below. www.rockauto.com lists them under electrical switches/stoplight switch.

Is the fuse blown? Or most Toyota’s the Stop fuse is separate from the vent, heater, A/C systems. Find the switch then test it or just jump the wires and see if you brake lights now work.

Did you ever resolve this? was it the brake light switch at the brake pedal? I had a similar problem on my 98 Corolla. Difference was that my brake lights were working. I finally traced it to the "ignition switch". This is NOT the key & barrel. There is an electrical switch just below the key & barrel.
Good luck!
