95 Civic VTEC 1.6L = 126hp 105ft-lbs torque, 0-60 8.8sec.

05 Corolla CE 5spd 126hp 125ft-lbs torque, 0-60 7.9sec.

A regular 05 Corolla would eat it alive.

Sorry to say this but your friend is a tard. The EX has and SOHC Vtec which only gives it like 5bhp more. Now if he had an Si, then that story would be closer.

2ZZ VVTL-i functionality wise is identical to K20 i-VTEC in RSX Type S and SI.

Both engines have Variable valve timing on intake side valves and lift on both intake and exhaust cams, rev at 8000+ rpm. However, they accomplish the samething in substantially different way.

The difference is 1.8 Liter displacement on 2ZZ (much lighter engine) vs 2.0 Liter K20 with bigger displacement (heavier engine, but better torque and power).

Most of Honda's other engines i.e. Civic, Pilot, MDX etc. have a variant of VTEC called VTEC-E that simply switches from 12 to 16 valves once it reaches a certain rpm. It does not have a seperate dedicated cam lobe that switches from low speed cam to high engine speed cam.

SOHC vtecs are made for fuel economy and DOHC vtecs (ie. B18C/C1/C5, H22 etc) were for performance.

You could have done your research on the stats on your own, outside the forum. Bench racing sucks.

This thread...hate to say it is as worthless as your Celica vs Corolla thread seeing as how you seem to be comparing tangerines to durians.

And yes, your car is faster then his. Does that make you feel much better now?

ok if the engine were identical power rating and so on and the only difference was the vtec and vvt... vvt is suposed to be a better system for racing, at least from what I've read and also seen on here.

There used to be a discussion on here I think. Check the search. That or it was a link someone put in a thread that shows the differences between the two and which one is better and so on. Was pretty cool to read.

Its not just peak power rating, the usable power aka powerband is what matters most. Gearing also plays a role. The engines are different so its like comparing watermellons to walnuts.
