Corolla 1997 engine temperature

Hello all. i am a new owner of a used 1997 Corolla with 115k KMS on it. Its a 1.8 manual DX and seems to be in a good shape. I am not sure what are the normal enginne temperature for corolla engines. The guage quickly (within 10-20 mins) comes to the middle of the scale and stays there with minor variations. Should i drain the radiator only for maintainance reasons or should i not bother. Please advice. THANK YOU IN ADVANCE

Sounds like the system is working OK. Check the condition of the coolant. Does it look clean and red, green or whatever color is supposed to be, not dark or rust colored or thick? When was the coolant last changed? The coolant is usually changed about every two to three years as the additives start to degrade. If you do change it, read up on flushing the system and what coolant to use.

The temperture gauge should read at operating in less than 10 minutes, unless it is a very cold day. When in doubt change the coolant, refill it with distilled water and antifreeze to a 50/50 mixture. I would also change the thermostat.
