Canada Manual Transmission (GEAR) oil

Hello. For a manual 97 corolla, should the gear / transmission oil be changed ? if yes after how many kilometeres should i change it !? or can i just top it up from time to time. my rolla has 115000 kms on it and i am wondering if gear oil should be a concern for me as a part of maintainance. Please advice. Thank You in Advance

Not sure on this model, some manuals state every 30K (US). IF you have not changed it, might do so. Does the owners manual state something?

replace it if you don't know its condition. It's easy as heck, just like draining and filling engine oil.

Its 24,000 Kms if you were gonna use a synthetic it could probably go longer ....

If your gonna change it i recomend using a GL-4 fluild Rather than GL-5 Personally i like the Red Line MT-90 its a great product and works really well

I changed the gear oil on my '03 CE at 56,000KM. ( I just bought it a month ago).I am using Castrol Syntec 45W 90 full synthetic, and I plan to change it every 2 years (35,000km). Why not? It's actually easier to change than the motor oil . Cheap maintenance that will pay off in the long run!
