go with the CA18DET coz it's already RWD layout. check my other post (boost on AE86) about the 3SGTE swap. lots of parts needed. i just don't know if the steering column will clear on the CA18DET. are you guys driving RHD or LHD?

my car is RHD...the turbo is on the opposite side to where my steering column is...someone on the local forums over here suggested this...i am kinda interested in the 3sge though but sourcing that engine is difficult over here....i guess the ca18det is more suited for my car and pocket.....too bad i cant stay with toyota engines...

11,000 for a 20V 4A-GE swap in a AE86, wtf dude... my friend did a swap like that, certainly didnt cost him that much...
Plus theres the normal 4A-GE swap in a KE70, which are pretty popular over here.

don't even bother going back to a 1.6L

IMO, it's better for you to get a motor which you can easily get parts for and if that's the SR20DET or CA18DET then go for it... f@#k the purist!!!

then even go 20V coz there's more work and in the end you'll hate the torque. i know you Island boys like your torque, hahahaha!

goodluck mang!!!
