Alarm problems

I have a problem with my wife's 96 Corolla's factory car alarm. Ever since she bought it, it's been like this. When you open any car door, you need to start the car or at least turn the key to on within 30 seconds or the alarm goes off. The alarm then won't stop until you start the ignition. Is there a way to turn off, cut a wire, pull a fuse, or anything, to stop the alarm? I don't want to do anything to screw up the car - I just want this stupid thing to stop.

if it is a factory alarm then unlocking the car with the key in the dr cylinder will disable the alarm

It's not disabling though. I just want to take the fuse out or cut the wire so it doesn't go off again. We don't have the alarm remote to it. It must be broken. Can I disable it without taking out another electrical system?

As far as I know. It uses the car's horn, not a separate one. If I could just rip it out then I would. Maybe I'll check under the hood today and see...

Well, I looked underneath and can't see anything resembling the alarm anywhere. I'll look some more maybe.

But is there anyone who knows how to just clip a wire to disable the alarm? I don't want to disable the horn (I tried - pulled the fuse on alarm and it disabled the whole horn). i just want to disable or rip out the alarm. Please just answer me that... Thanks!

The factory alarm should be a module under one of the front seats.

It worked! I went and unplugged the alarm underneath the drivers seat and no more alarm! Do you know how happy my wife is now? She's had this problem ever since she bought it a few years ago. Now we'll be able to open the door and not worry about sticking the key in the ignition! Yeah!!!!

I forgot to mention it, but that fix didn't work (unplugging the VIP alarm box). It doesn't start unless this box is plugged in. Is there a way to just clip the wires or re-program the computer? I'm really trying to avoid paying the Toyota dealer $45 to look at it and tell me there's nothing we can do... PLEASE HELP!

There's probably fixes in place to prevent you from just tying together signal wires, and Toyota's not likely to publicize service specs (and how to bypass) for a security system. The dealer may be your only bet, unfortunately.

Seems like the alarm brain unit went bad. That or you have a faulty wiring somewhere.

well when u unplug it u also disable the starter... now with the VIP system all that means the starter wire was cut in half and the VIP alarm was regulating it, so do this, take off your cars underdah, and find the ignition harness, and there u will see a piggyback harness to the stock ign plug, running to the alarm... just remove that piggy back harness and bam ur good to go
