Help: Fixed "click" but now wont idle

background: 2000 chevy prizm/toyota corolla. last 2 weeks intermittent starting, "click" problem as referred to on this forum.

i was taking the fan out to give me some room so i could take the starter out when i noticed that the 2 long skinny bolts were loose on the starter. i decided to take it out so i could clean up the contacts with a wire brush for now. well i got the bottom bolt of the starter out , but couldn't find the top bolt it was driving me insane, so i took the intake off and lifted it and noticed the top bolt to the starter was on the drivers side, so i took it off , cleaned it cleaned the contact points and put it back in , put the upper back on.

go to turn car on it starts up fine prob even quicker than before but now it wont hold idle, at first it jumps to like 2500rpm slowly comes down and then the rpm start to drop enough to hear the engine sputter till it finally dies.

i'm guessing vaccum leak, should i put a new gasket on the upper intake??

Could be the intake gasket but first check for loose or cracked vacuum hoses. You can attempt to find the leak by using a propane torch (gas on but no flame) and running it around the areas the leak might be. The engine will pickup idle when it takes in the propane. You can also use starter fluid but be careful using it.

Also check the wiring to the IAC valve and MAP/MAF sensor (if you have them).
