seriously tho....4-AF engine, stock intake, stock pipes...fartcan on the end...
how bad can it realllly be?? ..
can anyone give me soundclips or something like that? what i reeallly dont want is for it to sound LOOUD like a lot of the riceboy honda civics that drive around my town....i want a fairly good sound and for exhaust only, im on a budget of ~$100.
but, there is one thing i sorta did, just to attempt to get a sample of what something like that would sound like on my car, and that is, i put a small hole in the exhaust where it was all rusty and corroded..it did get louder, and it actually doesnt sound bad. What im worried about is, if i put on the fartcan and i dont like it, i dont wanna get screwed over with a crappy exhaust. suggestions please??
(other than, get a new engine...turbo/supercharge/get a new car, etc....aka, no flaming)

I hope your not comparing the exhaust tones from the HONDA engine from the exhaust tones from the TOYOTA engines. They are different and will produce different sound even with the same mods on the two different engine. If your budget is ~100 why not go for it (dunno if that includes the cost of welding). Your not getting any performance so its mostly just for sound. Look into the twin loops, quiet at low RPM but louder at higher RPMs.
If you mean axelback or catback exhausts for ~100 then good luck with that one. They will not produce the "rice" sound you don't want.
I just don't understand the use of the word "rice." Its getting old. Rice this rice that... I see you made a hole in your exhaust, RICE. Feelin me? Rice is subjective.
I wouldn't recomend a fart can. My Wife and Son have them on their Civic and Integra ......... and I hate the sound. On my tercel I have a 2" pipe all the way back and a 2' bore muffler. It sounds nice and deep but not obtrusive. Any 2.5 or 3" muffler should give you a nice deep sound without sounding ricer

I agree, little pipe with a deep tone. the shape of most fart cannon tips ends up being a megaphone and makes the louder than no muffler at all! i have the ebay header, which creates a different sound that stock slightly, and have a 7afe which is a little larger.
no, no, tangerine, the $100 doesnt include the welding, its only for the muffler. So, basically i guess to stay as far away from that loud honda civic nastyyy sound as i can, i should get a muffler with a 2.5 or 3 inch bore?? and i also read somewhere that i should also stay away from those 6inch long mufflers too, and that i should get a 4inch.....?

Inlet or outlet 2.5 or 3 inches?
No offense to Donald but his info does not hold true for all. He must be thinking that the larger the outlet the deeper the exhaust tone which is not true. I've had experience with many mufflers (on my Integra) and none and I mean none of them sound like those "ricer" sound you fellows are referring to. Engine design/displacement/exhaust components as I've said which people are not reading from my previous post play a key role in the exhaust tone. Retrofit an exhaust from a G35 and tell me it'll sound exactly like it does on a Honda. Even if a car does have a "ricer" exhaust note, it can be changed with a simple tune to the A/F ratio.
It depends what sound your looking for, something loud, something quiet, a straigh through, a chambered or a twin loop muffler. The sizing of the exhaust tip doesn't really matter, its the piping diameter and you should get one that fits.
okay....i bought a dynomax thrush turbo muffler/exhaust for 20bucks at advanced auto, and it has a 2.5" inlet and a 2.5" outlet.... i was thinking about removing the original muffler and having it welded/adapted to the stock pipes... i dont expect it to be TOO loud...
can anyone give me a possible estimate of how much it might be to have it welded in?
I also got this one instead of a glasspack/fartCAN because i also want to attempt to try to keep a fairly stock look as well.
and the sound i am looking for is something a litttle bit louder than what i have now, which is basically the hole in the muffler, with the same tone it has now.

Good choice, I like the sound of a chambered muffler. If you wanted loud, straigh through would have suited your needs.
Welding shops around my area charges 40-70 dollars to cut and weld the muffler. More if you want to get custom pipings to the cat or axel. The price may or may not be what your local shops charges so its just an estimate. Best answer would be to call them up for an estimate.
hahh! awesommm then! its kinda funny to me though, cuz in MY area, all the other straight-through mufflers and glasspacks and stuff all cost in the hundreds of dollars....
and at pepboys, even the NAME BRAND quality muffler costs waaayyy less than the cheapo POS glasspack.....(not tryin to bash on the glasspack or anything...) makes me wonder why the crap is so expensive and the quality is so cheap...?

Around my area, pepboys only sell cheap crap (APC and the likes). But the muffler design has a difference from quality/maker. There are mufflers that are straigh through that are high in quality (and vice versa), turbo charged cars would need them otherwise it would cause a restriction and backpressure from the chambered routes. Get pics of the muffler installed.

No offence taken.
You are quite right. My reply was simplistic.

haha, i will.... hopefully i should have it installed some time within a week or two...
lol, gotta put a lil more $$$ together for the install...
I have a fart can in my all my corollas and they are all lame! I plan to swap them out to full cat backs soon. I also had 1 fart cannon on my rms13 and a full exhaust in my HS13. It sounds Ok with the S13. But on a 4af... not too sure about that. Unless you get 3in or below. I have freaking 4 in tip on my ae92. And I have to post a video on how they all sound like.
