hello, I really need help.
Hello everyone, I am the proud new owner of a 1989 toyota Corolla. The car is now a circle track stock car. My son will be racing the car at various tracks in MI, and OH. The car has the carb. engine. The rules for this class are very strict, there is not a lot we can do for performance, no aftermarket goodies and such. I have a couple of issues and am desperatley needing you help. I have always been a chevy guy, so I am converting over. First let me ask about the carb. The previous owner rigged the carb. to be mechcanical istead of run off of vacuum, now the car runs very very rich. I need to know of there is an adjustment for the air/ fuel mixture. The car is mostly all stock, engine, drivetrain, and suspension. The muffler and converter have been removed. The stock exhaust manifold remains joining to a 2inch diameter pipe that runs to a resonator off a dodge minivan (we have a 95 db. max rule) then exits on the right side of car before right rear tire. From reading on here I know the car has no rev limiter (bummer). We race on five tracks that are quartermile, the car turns around 6100 rpms. in second gear with the stock 13 inch wheels and the required tires per rules (195 70 r13). The problem is our home track is 3/8ths mile and in second gear the car turns too many rpms. We tried running the car in drive, but it just turns too low of rpms. and is a dog running down the straightaways. I had an idea to put on bigger tires to make up the difference (195 70 r15) so I found that wheels off a Scion XB are the same offset and bolt circle (4 * 100) The Wheels fit on the front with just a little tweaking, but on the back the rubber hits the spring perch on the strut. The rules call for the suspension to be stock, but I can change it as long as it looks stock. I really need to be able to run the 15 inch wheels. I am asking please, if anyone has any ideas on tweaking the motor for more power, changing the suspension around for more grip, just anything. Your idea's will be greatly appreciated. staying on an extremely light budget is a must. Thank you very much, I will get a couple of pictures on here soon.
