Any performance mods to your 2E will cause in an increase in fuel consumption. A 1.6 or whatever still isn't going to suck much gas. In fact, it might be more effecient than your 1.3 with some random parts salpped on... Maybe you should research the fuel effeciency of available engines before discounting a swap...
