Good luck, just went for mine about 2weeks ago, damn EGR system was failing me. I'd suggest you look at yours before you take it in, replace the EGR booster/amplifier or whatever they call it, that's what my mechanic told me I needed.

Mine failed agin, I will wait till my CAP program application is approved. The Sate of California can pay for the repairs. I saw this coming, The Toyotas during these years are very well known for failing Smog. The carbs cannot be tuned without a automotive emissions computer. As long as they play this BS game, they can pay the costs.

Those that live in other countries have no clue the tight controls we have on everything here in the USA. What really makes me explode in anger is when people start yapping and jacking their jaws saying crap about us and pollution of any kind. No one here has, yet, but in general, out in other forums and in the real world. Also another reason why we don't do many mods on cars here, it's to damned hard to put anything aftermarket on and pass inspections.

we live under the gestapo's boot here.

Could be a bad EGR valve. mine is the original that came with the car. 315,000 miles on it.

BTW, the damned things cost $170.00 at autozone.com

The Catalytic Converter went bad again,, that's why it failed smog a couple months back.. they replaced it 2 years ago, this time around they had to replace it again! it only lasted 2 years! What a flaming rip-off! every 2 years. The first one lasted 16 years.

see what happens in 2 years, for the next smog test.

I forgot to mention the heat shield, on the new one, rattles like hell..

Smog Test

retiredat44....bite the bullet and get that Catalytic Converter. I suggest get a MagnaFlow Catalytic Converter, because they offter that emission certificate. DON'T buy any CATALYTIC CONVERTER off eBAY (THIS GOES FOR EVERYONE)!

I would suggest go ahead and upgrade the entire exhaust system (exhaust headers to muffler) with a performance exhaust system. But California.....better not , I don't want you getting hit with NOISE pollution!

that's cus it would really cramp the auto industry's style. Illinois has e-testing, but it's free (unlike CA). It's annoying at times, but it keeps people from running around polluting more than they should.

It's always a pain in the ass to have the guy come out and say, "okay, you failed. Go into the office for further instructions"

mind you, they also say "okay, you passed. bye."
