Have you tried starting it by touching a wire from the starter motor solenoid on the positive terminal of the battery? My ignition stuffed up so I bypassed it completely, having one wire from the starter, and one from the battery to a two position switch in the cabin. Works like a dream!

Maybe when you ripped the dash out, it might have touched or pulled some wires somewhere?

i did the same w/ my 89' AE92 GTS Coupe. The ignition system was crapping out on me, so i just ran a wire from the starter solenoid straight to a wire in the cabin that received 12volts of power when i turned the key in the ignition. Ever since then i havent had any trouble starting the car.
