You can tell a lot about an engine by the tune it makes when you tap it with a ballpine hammer. If it humm's low its a 4AF, if it resonates a high pitch tone, its a 4AGE.

if i'm right, gts (which came with 4age) was first made available in 1985.. so the 1984 hatch that you have should be the sr5 with 4ac engine. i have never seen or owned a 1984 gts..

if it's dual cam, has AFM, says TVIS on the intake manifold and is fuel injected, then it is the 4age.

if it is single cam, carb then it is 4ac.

if u got 4 wheel discs, then u got gts.

if u got super adjustable driver seat, then u got gts.

if u got 14inch rims, then u got gts.

if u got color coded bumpers, then u got gts.

if u are missing any of the above things, u got an sr5 :p

OR....

look at your speedo, GT-S will go up to 240km/h and a 7500 redline, SR5 is like 180 km/h (?) and 6k something redline

look at your interior, seats are different between GT-S and SR5

theres actually many other little things, where the GT-S has the "higher grade" stuff and/or with extra accessories

look at the stamped plate on the top of your firewall, what engine does it say?

how about looking at the sticker? does it say SR5 or GT-S at the rear
