Australia 5A-FE backwards swap to 4A help plz.

Hi guys, new here but just need some info. I have a 91 corolla with a 5a-fe engine which has run a bearing and died. I am having trouble finding another 5a-fe in a hurry and was wondering what would be some other options enginewise eg could I slot in a 4a without much hassle? Any info on models and whether I could keep the existing auto etc would be awesome. Thanks in advance for any help.
P.S. The aussie flag was the closest to an n.z. flag I could find!

Yes you could go to a 4AFE and it wouldn't really be going backwards. Although the 5AFE is newer it is actually less powerful than the 4AFE.

If you go with the 4AFE, make sure you get all wiring and electronics for it, I'm not sure if the 5AFE wiring will match up or be the same. the same would apply if you decided to go with a 4AGE, which is what I would probably do.
