AE92 4AF to 4AGE ST

I see alot of posts asking about what you need to go from a crappy 4AF engine to the awesome 4AGE 20v ST so I thought i'd do a write up of the stuff that your going to need
I did the 4age 20v ST swap on my 4dr corolla and I found it to be SUCH a pain

Since your carb'd you need the EFI Fuel tank, fuel pump and fuel lines from a AE92 1990+ corolla(going with an after market pump such as a walbro is your best choice ~ I also used 2" steel braided fuel line all the way to the engine)

Depending on whether your manual or auto(i was auto switching to manual) your going to need the shift linkages, shifter assembly, clutch master cylinder, clutch lines and clutch pedal with mounting bracket(If your already manual your ok)

The Power steering resoviour on the 4AF engine is mounted to the pump so you need a resoviour from a different vehicle(i used a 92 camry V6 and mounted it on the strut tower just under the strut bar)

Your also going to need the high pressure powersteering line which you will have to custom make.

As far as the engine mounts go, I found that most of them didn't line up 100% so i had to do a little bit of custom work to make it fit in there but nothing major(had to grab new engine mounts because i used to be auto not manual but i think the manual ones might line up perfect)

Depending on where you get the engine, most places wont give you the body harness plug for the ECU so you need to grab that from a 1992 GTS corolla.

As far as the wiring goes depending on whether you have auto->manual and carb'd->EFI its a really really big job to wire that all up.

Also you will need to custom make your CV Axles since the splines dont match up on the ones from your 4af engine(i had auto ones not sure about manual)
I used the inners from a celica and the outters were kept the same

Also the biggest problem I found was that when these motors come from whomever your buying it from, they tend to not have the 'j-pipe' or the exhaust piece coming off the header which has the o2 sensor mounting and the flange for the header. This can be a pain in getting an exhaust shop to make u a custom exhaust without this j-pipe(I recommened going 2.25" and make sure you get a rensonator installed or it will be quite loud and annoying)
but other then all that theres nothing much else i can think of
good luck
If anyone has any questions feel free to respond

What model corolla did you have and what gearbox did you switch to?
Every FWD corolla axle I've seen has had the same spline count + diameter. (bar the supercharged ones)

What's awesome about the ST 20V?? I drove Minesh's car at the TN meet the other day (ST 20V powered GTS) and you can feel the difference from his car to mine (16V Smallport) but it wasn't much difference. Better pick up throughout the midrange and a tad faster but that was it.

I'll have to drive Ichi's car one day (BT 20V powered GTS) to see what the difference is from his car to mine.

I'm usually a big 20V fan, but I think I'll be aiming for a 3SGTE swap eventually, too bad the dude with the 3SGTE powered GTS doesn't show up to meets, I'd like to see what his car can do.

it can be.

I'm currently using an SR5 tank with a GT-S fuel pump assembly dropped into it (bolts right up).

the only problem with it is at about 3/8-1/4 tank you start getting fuel starve issues because the carb tank doesn't have any baffles inside it.
