p0441 and other related questions

Hi,
My check engine light just lit up this morning and Error code
P0441 Evaporative Emission Control System Incorrect Purge Flow

The guy i go to for my car (Corolla 1999 VE Touring Edition BTW) told me to get a part from toyota thats 140$. I told him to erase the CEL before i went out to buy the part to see if it would come up again. Hasn't come up since..(Only drove from college to home)

Now after looking through forums, this P0441 error usually gets fixed by changing the canister sensor right?
- I also saw people suggesting checking the evap hoses that exit the filter box and checking the MAP sensor... i checked the hoses and im pretty sure its not my MAP sensor since i've had my air intake for like 2 weeks...

BUT, when i installed my SRI there was some part left in mid-air that had two hoses contected to it. It was attached to my original air box, but now that its gone, i have no where to hook it up too...so i used a TIE WRAP to hook it up to some wire...below are some pictures of what the part is, can anyone tell me what it is? and could that be causing the P0441?

I'd also appriciate suggestions on where to hook it up or how i could make it more stable or solid?

Thanks
Bryan

P.S : whats a purge flow?

My '98 Corolla has been putting out a P0441 code intermittently for 5 yrs now. I just disconnect the negative battery terminal for a couple of minutes and reinstall it. The CEL will stay off for days/weeks/months after that.
Have to reset the clock and radio but the car runs great.

Well.. that should help you a bit. Might be the zip tie is crushing the hose, thus your evap isnt flowing enough.
