agreed ^^^ i would LOVE to see some more diesels, great torque and better gas mileage and can run on alternative fuels very easily

We've had both 1c and 2c diesels, one in a ae92 sedan and the other in a caldina.

Pathetic doesn't even begin to describe the performance. Though they did get around 5.2L/100km, even more on long trips.

I've driven a 2c-t but unfortunatly it was auto so didn't go any better.

So to sum up C series diesels suck!

well yeah i guess the only advantage is the economy, main reason i was wondering is we have a diesel bug and its been a great vehicle, and one thing thats actualy really impressive about the TDI series is u can easily increase the performance and get the same if not better gas mileage, ive heard of people running around 180hp/300ft-lbs tq and still getting close to 50mpg highway... but city driving is another story...

From what ive been reading i think we might be seeing more diesel vehicles here in the us on the count of the low sulfur fuel, which not only burns cleaner but also allows for much better performance because with less sulfur u can run higher presure injectors which make for better atomization... mmm so who knows mabey we might start seeing true diesel sports cars one day, Unless the Direct Inject Gas Engines Start to become more popular.

Diesels are great but if I was going to get one I would get in a car that came stock with it rather than try to mess around with putting one into a gas car. Jetta's are great little cars. They weigh 2300 lbs just like the ae86 and ae92 (well the MKII jettas at least, they are the same age as the ae86 and ae92). I'm not sure about the newer diesels but the older ones used to only last if they were drivin long distance. If they were drivin in town all the time the injectors had to be replaced and lines flushed out fairly often. BUt then again old ones don't want to start in the winter where as the new TDI VW motors have no issues with the winter, think thats because they changed the oil they use... pretty sure they use synthetic in them.
