Oh Haha Nice. I have the same problem, and just yesterday I opened that thing up.
Heres the deal:
.) Open that outer jacket looking thing--if you stick a flathead screwdriver underneath that part, it'll pop right off. Take it off (Pull it above the shift lever and take it off)
.) You are now exposed to some open parts--if you see closesly, theres a box that the shifter goes into with 4 notches (2 in the left, 2 in the right). Undo those notches--in my case, one of the notches was really really hard to remove and I ended up just breaking it off.
.) You wont be able to remove this little covering until you remove the actual shifter.
.) Above "P" theres a little button/closed thing. Pop it open, and stick a screwdriver inside it'll feel like your pressing a reset button. With this thing pressed, move the shifter all the way to "2".
.) In the front of the shift lever, there are 2 screws. Unfasten them.
.) Pull the shifter straight up, the button on the top may pop out or jump out, don't worry, its easy to put back.
.) You now have access to the light bulb. There is enough space to actually put your hands in there or you can use a tool.
.) Time to put everything back. Everything from here on out is common sense.
.) When you put the shift lever back on, just be sure to stick it down the shaft first and then put in the button and then screw the screws back on.
.) All done.
