AE92 Interchangeable Shifters?

Just curious, i own an 89' AE92 GTS coupe and was wondering if the 5spd shifter off an early model mr2 would work on the AE92? or possibly any other late model toyota. I mean i could go just get the TRD Short shift kit, but if it's possible to interchange a shifter. Why not? Since they're dime a dozen at the local Pick-A-Parts and prolly cost less than $30 for the shifter assembly.

I have a Celica shifter that I picked up from my local Pick-A-Part.. it fit like a glove.. its slightly short between shifter throws.. and the length of the shifter is short compared to the stock Ae92 shifter.. the stock Ae92 shifer reminds me of driving a truck compared to the celica shifter.. look for the older celica's... 90-93... $15 at PickAPart.. hope this helps..

Your welcome. Im actually in the 91402 area.. close to LA but not exactly in the city.. umm. i honeselty don't remember if i needed the whole assembly.. i did this mod 2 years ago... lol... but i believe you just need the shifter rod.. i'd say pocket any screws and clips you take off to get the rod out of the celica.. just in case..
