1998 Corolla Exhaust System Question

Hi.
My wifes 1998 Corolla is starting to have exhaust noise.
I lifted car up today and it looks like noise and air is coming from around an piece just a short way back from where exhaust goes upward to manifold. It looks like what was called an expansion piece (has webbing like look) on another car I had.
Is this what it is, how much will it cost to replace, and can it be possibly be repaired on the cheap with some **** paste I can buy at K-Mart?
Thx.
Bob

Sounds like you have an exhaust leak. Do you have a picture of where exactly the sound is coming from? I want to say the a-pipe but not 100% sure.

I think its an exhaust leak. You need to replace your toyota exhaust gasket

"There are also conditions in which there are leaks in the system. This usually happens where the engine and headers meet. Leaks cause to engine to work harder. To solve this problem can be solved by adding exhaust gaskets in between the spaces." quoted from Auto Toyota Parts read more

its probably not the gasket, it's the damned flex pipe... either that or your exhaust pipe has cracks and/or rusted out. YOu can wrap tin around it and put hose clamps around that in an emergency...

Yeah, thats probably it - the 'flex' pipe. How costly is this to replace?
Thx.

Someone else here said $90.00. Mine is old and original, but I put some tin around it... even though the rest of my exhaust systme is in excellent condition, new muffler was put on last year, new hangers,, new sections, new Catalytic converter, new gasket,, etc.. but $90.00 for a Flex pipe sounded too expensive fo me, so I tried the tin wrap (tinh can cut up into tin strip. But it's still cackles wway more than I want... If it was cheaper I might have sprung for it,,,
