AE82 owners definately need to contribute to this...that way maybe we can get our own sticky...

anyway, heres how i got mine the day i bought it:

in progress:

after patching the rust, doing a little bit of filler and primer:

tearing apart and stripping the interior, took out the deadener, installed the new shift lever (used to be automatic):

most importantly its the inside that counts, should be running in a month or so:

yeah.. looks like they may have used the same parts bin for the two models.. probably cheaper that way, I believe you are able to fit AE92 short shifters on the AE82s.

yeeep, it was originally automatic, and it uses the same auto lever as the ae92's. and thats an ae92 5 spd lever, and it bolted straight in place of the ae82/92 automatic lever. i was thinking of getting a the trd short shift, but im still debating on how much money i want to spend on the car lol. the only part that didn't fit was the ae92 shift boot, the hard plastic plate the rubber fits over and clips onto the center console hit the top of the shift mech housing (i guess cause the center console has a different height in the 82) so i had to cut the center piece out, but thats just nitpicking. when i was in my buds ae92 i noticed a big chunk of the interiors are the same parts being used on both gens.

TRD short shifter is nice, but there is a company that makes one that has even shorter throws and is cheaper. Plus the TRD one is bent towards the right since it was made for the japanese cars
