AE86 AE86 problem PLEASE HELP!!!

Like the title says. I need help.

To cut the story short, i needed to do a swap on my ae86 because my track prepped 86 was smashed by a red light runner (details about that can be found on the forum).

I got another 86 and the head gasket went on it. fantastik, now that i need to get to work the car spues toxic vapour into the cabin turning my eyes into inflamed pillowes of puss, as well as bellowing a generous cloud of poisonous gas into the atmosphere.

ok, so here i go, time to swap my JDM redtop 16V into the blown 86. no problem, done it before shouldn't be a big deal. i have a few days, clear skies, perfect. clean the car, clean the motor, paint it, clear coat it, bam, looks fantastik. slap that baby in, hook it up and........nothing. nothing? WTF? worked in my other car, and i know all the wiring is good, ecu is good, everything is fine.

This is what happenes.

I get into the Dorifto mobile, pop the key in, turn, awaiting an array of lights on the dash followed by a brisk spin of the starter and then smiles all around. however, to my surprise when i turned the key the dash failed to light up. the only indicator that was working was my open door. The check engine light, and charge lights failed to light up when key was in the 2ndary position (ON, or oxilary)
Everything in the car works, lights, radio, flip up lights EVERYTHING except for the most important part.
The failure of the dash lights to come on indicated to me a lack of EFI functionality, as i also did not hear the fuel pump priming. no wining, nothing. and nothing on the dash.
When i try and start the car, it cranks, and temporarily starts on the cold start injector. this lasts for less then a second as the RPM's drop and the engine stalls after the injector seses to pump fuel into the throttlebody.
The RPM signal to the dash works, i can see the needle responding.
As i've mentioned i think this is aproblem with EFI.
Last time i had this issue was on my 86 honda accord hatchback, but then nothing would come on the dash and the car wouldn't even crank. i changed the main fuse and bam, everything worked.
This wasn't the case with this vechile, as odly everything but the EFI and diagnostic lights work.

ok, time for diagnostics.

List of items checked.

-wiring (to and from the ECU, engine and all accessories)
-all plugs including spark plugs, sensor connectors and ECU plugs. (rechecked and cleaned)
-checked for spark
-checked all fueses, relays, circuit opening relays, even the fuse at the positive side of the battery. checked, cleaned replaced.
-new terminals (connectors) on the battery. both + and -. Negative side has a new cable.
-all grounds checked. my other corolla had more then 50% of its grounding wires missing and it still ran perfectly.
-fuel lines and connectors (had a small leak in fuel line, cut the line fitted a tube on it. no problem)
- changed the ECU from my track car, changed a few relays and fuses. still nothing
- did a few tricks with the diagnostics port to try and prime the fuel pump, and shorted the EFI connectors to see if that would work. The pump primed, but the EFI failed. still no lights on the dash.

-i basicaly went through everytihng on the car. i even called up a few toyota delerships to see if anyone had a quick solution.
nothing.

Looking to see if anyone else might have run into something similar, or could lend a helping hand.
Really need this baby to work, i have a B20A1 swap to do for the accord as well, so i'm out of a car right now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

take the harness from the track car and shove it in the new car?

Check the starter connection? Maybe swap the starter? Swap the ignition part for the key...

yeah, i swapped the entire motor with tranny and starter.
the only thing i did not swap was the wiring harness, but i highly doubt that that is the problem. because this car was also running before, with the old engine, the USDM bluetop. so something is not right there.
The only difference between the cars is that my track car was an 86, without AC, and this one is an 87 WITH AC. at least used to have it until i gutted the thing.

so yeah.
open to suggestions.
