just bought '95 corolla 1.6L automatic. 65000 miles. where would be the best payback for performance dollars invested. intake? exhaust? chip? any ideas would be appreciated.
I said this too many times....nitrous is your best bang for buck.
Adding bolt ons would not provide as much gain as nitrous.
Your car is not a good platform for speed so just leave it as it was designed for and thats fuel efficiency. There are cars that can be changed for performance but how deep is your pocket? I highly doubt you are willing to drop a significant amount for modding as well as do a lot of actualy wrenching.
But if you are set on modding it then do the basic upgrades like I/H/E followed with a tune. But the gains per dollar spent might dissapoint.
An engine swap will probably be one of your best bets... 4AGE 20V if you want to stay naturally aspirated or 4AGZE if you want boost, you will need a manual transmission swap as well to get the most out of the car.
he wants performance for the dollar, so i made a suggestion.
chances are slim that anyone is actually going to follow through with these suggestions for "more performance", there are too many of these trolling posts that happen here on TN daily.
Do a search next time though, chances are this topic will be covered numerous times
ok rather than asking what would be the most efficient for performance, im leaving the car as is except for adding things like exhaust and intake. perhaps you can give me ideas of what the best intake and exhaust would be for a more specific question.
Nope, I still think nitrous is the best bang. Sure the nitrous requires a refill (which is its downside).
Do you want to compare piecing your own turbo kit vs nitrous? Or used turbo kits vs used nitrous kits? How many refills does it take to equal the same amount of cost for the turbo kit?
Since the OT had to ask this question I doubt he/she will be doing the install him/her self. Factor in install cost and tuning (for turbo or S/C) and it will be costly.
Maintenance for turbo/supercharged cars would require a closer eye then on a nitrous setup.
