Trying to solve a problem with a OEM deck that powers down shortly after powering up.
I am being quoted $300 canadian for a dealer replacement. Is there a repair service or better place to source a replacement deck. I would like to keep the vehicle OEM.
the internals are shorting out thats why its powering down after powering up. Go aftermarket for your next radio, your going to get better options with it and it will be a lot cheaper.

i have an alpine head unit and im really pleased, the sound quality is top notch, even with stock speakers. i got one where im ipod sits in the glove compartment, and all the controls are on the deck itself. no cd player though, but i dont use them anyway
Unless you are planning on selling the car real soon, buying an aftermarket get will get you more features, better sound quality, for less money. There are tons of deals to be had on ebay or local forums BST sections.

Toyota does not make their stereo equipment, you can often pull the unit out and find the original manufacturers name printed somewhere. Have seen web based outfits that specialize in car stereo repair, suggest doing a Google search. The best route would be buying an aftermarket unit, Toyota OEM in this case may not mean quality.
I know you said you want to keep it stock; however, if you buy an aftermarket stereo and the proper wiring harness it will bolt right in without any modifications. So, if you keep the factory stereo, you will be able to easily convert it back to stock with no issues whatsoever. you won't even have to cut a single wire. It truly is a plug and play application, and as was stated earlier, you will have many more features, better sound, and less expense.
For $300 CDN you can get an aftermarket deck that will make that OEM deck look like an 8-track.
Canadian Tire, Walmart or any Mobile audio shop would sell the wiring harnesses for about $10-15, plug and play basically, Future shop and Bestbuy usually sell Car Audio and offer free install on some of their models, just buy the harness, and an install kit and bring it to them OR you can buy it from them and still get the free install anyways.
