AE92 Spark plug wires 4age hi comp red top

First off I SEARCHED !! and found no help

Im doing a motor swap here in the next few weeks. I need a set of plug wires a cap and rotor for the new motor but I cant find the type I need. I went through this with my current motor and had a hell of a time finding the cap. I had to special order it because it was different than most american types.

This is the type of motor that is going in....

the closest dealer is a long drive from me. I talked to them and got some young kid that couldnt understand the description I gave him.

I posted this to get a better idea of what it is or maybe a part number. The cover baffles me and I havent taken it off (at the shop) to see what it looks like under it. Im trying to get this info so that I can get a better deal on the wires and not pay the shop $120 for the wires they can get.

AE92

That motor you bought is from the 90-91 Corolla GT-S. Also referred to as the high comp motor. Yes, the cap and wires are slightly different than the 88-89 TVIS motors. $46.99 for the cap and wire set at www.partsamerica.com Or if you have money burning a hole in your pocket, try the stealership...

or you can do the smart thing.....

those caps suck ass... and the wires are the later toyota 5mm wires.....

here's what I did when I did my smallport swap....

get the cap and rotor from an older FWD 4age... might be the same as an ae86? dunno, just not the 4age cap style that has the wires going in every direction.... even dumber

then you can just get a set of "universal" 4 cylinder wires.... you have the spark plug valley cover to keep water out regardless.... I found a set in a box for $20 with a lifetime warranty... dunno the application, just started searchin....

That's a redtop smallport 4AGE(90-91), having both bigport and smallport motors I can tell you the caps and wires are not the same, similar but not the same. Your best bet is to get the cap and wires from the dealership (drive there, you have no choice) or get them from an online toyota parts place (and hope you don't get ripped off).

I believe they're different part numbers for the ECU, don't quote me on this but I "think" you might be able to run it with the bigport (88-89) ECU.

I sure hope so. The guys I have doing the swap for me (I miss my shop!) are confident that they can make it happen.

Anyone have any Ideas where I can get a good bushing kit and some cv axles that dont crap out at 6K miles??

as for the cap.... contact points and hold-down points are identical.... IE you can use a bigport cap on a smallport motor....

the ecu's are different... the bigports run a different set of injectors, a different afm, and have t-vis than the smallport.....

you can run a smallport on bigport electronics... but you HAVE TO USE THE BIGPORT ELECTRONICS and strip the smallport of all it's electronics (including dizzy, coil/ignitor, etc...)... you will also have a "flat" spot in the rpm's where the ecu is expecting t-vis to come on
