it's all about if you have the money at the time or not. He could always pull the motor to replace them if he had to. Hard to buy parts without the cash (n)

the only part that is a PITA to change with the engine and trans in is the rear engine mount

the list of new parts:

-Oversize pistons and rings
-Bored, honed, decked block
-Reground crank
-replaced con rod bolts
-all new bearings(mains,rods,thrusts)
-Decked head with new valve seals
-a bunch of new gaskets (intake mani, exhaust mani, TB,.....)
-New oil pump
-new seals (rear main, front main, and camshaft seal)
-new water pump
-new timing belt
-new timing belt tensioner
-head gasket (duh)
-head bolts
-deep studs for the (i like to strip out) sub-oil pan

the engine runs so nice now when it idles youd swear it isn't running!!

Nice job!

How much mileage did you have on the engine before it was rebuilt?

our 1989 Corolla SR5 carb model has 315,000 miles on it.. does not burn oil, well actually maybe once a month, or 2 months.. I have to add 1/2 quart..

Cool

too bad you could not drop a small block aluminum V8 or evena V6 in there..

did you at least get a new clutch for it before it went/goes back together? or maybe its an automatic,,, maybe best to have the auto tran checked and maybe rebuilt too? it would be a shame to drop in all thew stuff only for it to go bad

Probably eggshaped cylinders and worn rings..
same ole, same ole...

but what amazes me is the mileage probably wasn't very high..

actualkly mine is like this
for some reason the valve was full of shit

i couldnt see the valve at all, which is unbeleivable

my motor have 200k and was burning a gallong every 1000km !

i am replacing valve seals, headgasket, timing belt, alternator belt, power steering belt, exaust/intake gasket, throttle body gasket,

i am actually trying to find more info on the 7afe like the head bolt torque, the sequence, how the timing has to be done. they are rare like shit, even on celica board !

also is there a way to advance timing to gain some extra hp !?

is cylinder # 1 & 4 are at the very top, how the cam have to be placed ?

i am new at rebuilding engine and im trying to get as much info as i can cuz i got another spare motor in the basement on which i am going to pratice more to maybe slap a turbo on it.

i am going to take my time on it and check every aspec of every little thing to make sure its not going to burn oil again, even more if its turbo.

94_Rolla_Guy: did you take another 7afe and where it was rebuild, it look really really nice!

my motor is like pic #5, might be more than this hehe !
