Hey guys hows it going? I haven't been on in a while. I have since sold my corolla. I want another down the road, but for now I have aquired another project car! It's a 1989 240sx 5 speed hatch. I know its a nissan (shoot me), but it was only 600 bucks. Hopefully i'll fix it up enough and trade for an ae86.
My brother has a '92 with the 2.4L. Gas mileage is...eh.
It's a fun little car to drive around town, though. Whenever I visit him, I try to get the keys from him for a "short trip to the store."
He picked up a set of rims off Ebay for about $400, put some low profile tires on them, had the springs lowered, and now it looks kind of sporty, actually.
Besides the mileage, what I least like about that car is the 3.5" speakers in the doors. Putting 6.5" speakers in there will be difficult without major modification or building kickpods.
The upside is definitely a bit more torque and better handling than my rolla. Luckily, it's a 5 spd, so that adds some enjoyment to the driving experience. Quite a long throw with the shifter, though. 2nd gear doesn't catch quite like I'd expect it to, but I'm sure that has more to do with wear and tear than a design flaw.
But, it's definitely a sweet looking motor despite being naturally aspirated and having only a short RAM for modifications. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before he changes those circumstances. But, I always say what's the point of modifying a NISSAN that already has 100K on it? It's not like it's a toyota.
if you wanna coiugh up the bucks for an rb20, or, if you have extra limbs to spare, sr20. very nice car though, personally i would keep it instead of an ae86, (mostly cuz it's too hard to find an ae86 in tuscon), but also because one of my faves is the s14 silvia... such a beautiful car... to emilio, it's alot easier to buy an s13/14 and modify it with readily available parts (maybe not readily, but just an order away) than to get custom made parts for a toyota, it's probably cheaper down the road too... and it pays off alot more in the area of performance, although it's not quite as rewarding as a custom built 91 mr2 t-bar turbo ... it's better if you're looking for the quickest way to the top...
as a side note, the ke20 wasn't that bad of an engine, just not the greatest, i would prefer a 4age any day to the ke20, but like i said, it's cheaper to squeeze good performance out of it than a 4age/3sge or any of the other higher end 'yota engines.
