USA Strange!!! Wind blows 2000 corolla away. Rack and Pinion fault???

Hello,
My local workshop guy drove my 2000 corolla which has a problem of sliding left and right when you accelerate or slow down. He anticipates that it is the fault with some steering box part with the name "Rack and Pinion".

Please guide me if you know something about it and is it expensive to have this job done ?

Many things can cause a car to drift when accelerating and braking. Front end alignment, calipers that hang up, torque steer (which is normal on front wheel drive cars), defective tie rod ends to name a few. Is the rack and pinion leaking fluid? Is there excessive play in the steering wheel? Might want to get a second opinion from another repair shop.

As 90 GP states there can be many causes for this issue. A shop would normally examine the suspension, steering system, etc before concluding what the cause is. No sure on this car, but on Camry replacing a rack and pinion is time consuming job. A rebuilt rack/pinion unit lists for $2-300.

USA Strange!!!! Wind blows away 2000 Corolla on higher speed

Hey,
I got an strange opinion from two repair shops that interstate highways usually have a bit unevenness and when it is windy, I should drive slower; because this car is not for driving above 60 MPH.

Please guys share your opinon about this year/make/model specifically and experiences.
I will probably resell it in next few month if this is really the case.

Thanks,
Fahad

My 90 has a tendency to get pushed around on windy days on the highway. Two factors in my car are it is light in weight and the power steering is rather overassisted.
