FYI - Although this thread generated NO interest, FYI, I was able to purchase a 1987 Toyotal Corolla FX16 Owner's Manual from the Toyota Publications section of Toyota Motor Sales (TMS) in Calfornia for $22.86 including tax and shipping vs. $70 for just the owner's manual on eBay.
And I think I've solved the mystery of the Vehicle Description Section (VDS) of the VIN for 1987. The AE87G for me is simply the designation Toyota gave at the time for the 1987 FX16. There are actually two vehicles listed with this VDS, same make and model, but Toyota gives a different number 1732 for the manual transmission and 1733 for the automatic transmission (the one I have). But either manual or auto, the AE87G is the same in the VIN.
Cheers.
