K&N air filters? cold intake?

does anyone have much experience with these performance filters? are they really that much better compared to a stock air filters? I've been thinking of coughing up the $40 for one if it's going to help keep my car running smoothly.

while we're on the topic, would it be helpful at all to put a cold-air intake on a 4AC AE82?

I have put them in to my old car which was a 94 626. They help the air flow more smoothly and by doing so it increases horse power and gas milage...its not by a lot but some people can feel the diffrence.

K&N filters are the way to go. If nothing else, they've got a 1 million mile warranty so you'll never have to buy another filter if you just clean it out every few years.

I actualy just bought one today and threw it in my 99. I havn't driven it since I put it in, but a K&N filter made a small (but noticable) difference in the Mustang I used to have in high school.

You CANT increase horsepower AND mileage, its either or.

Also you wont feel the difference of a filter, the only thing why it feels different is the image you have between your ears.

I prefer to use an ordinary air filter and change every few months. I use FRAM or the cheaper version SAKURA. A guy at an "auto-performance" store tried to sell me the K&N but I didnt buy it. besides the increase in performance would be negligible to me with only a 1.3L

A friend of mine replaced his old toyota cold air intake with K&N. it works great. Another good thing with this is that the kit for cleaning is fairly cheap when I want to clean and re oil my filters

A better flow of air does increase the hp and gas milage... This might seem weird but it makes a big improvement and it even improves more installed with a a cold air filter http://tornadofuelsaver.com/272/torn...howitworks.php it also show hat with better airflow comes more performence and improved gas milage. Do not get me wrong the change is not alot but every little bit helps when you are driving long distances. Just shows with a better airflow things are possible and as far as the gas milage goes it depends on how you drive it...

Your statement backed up with a "joke" does not really help in your arguement. The turdado fuel savers are a gimmick. Its all marketing, it does not work. I/H/E with a tune will help gain power along with fuel efficiency, the car comes from the factory running rich. Adjusting the A/F ratio to its optimum setting will help.

well it might be a marketing joke to you but it does work none the less... im not trying to make waves on this site or anything but i have used them and i know people that do use them and it does help granted i do understand the marketing "idea" of tricking someone but i would not have bought one for my car if they did not work and teh gas milage did improve along with my houre power gains. When i get a chance ill send you the dyno's from my old car.

toyota_b your telling me you stuck one of those thing in your car and them dynoed it? Right!! Blow on your hand(what??) no really blow on your hand then put a fan in front of your hand and blow again. You will fell the difference...less air. The hp you feel isn't hp it's tq. Those fuel savers do just that; they save fuel. For a commuter i would recommend getting one, even getting the most restrictive one! The average car dosen't even need 40hp to cruise down the hwy(but dont expect to pull away from a go cart)
And listen to Flashmn he is very knowledgeable, even though he is the resident asshole(I just seen that in this post ). K&N filters = greater air delivery. Greater air delivery = greater fuel delivery. If performance is what you want then yes get one but craft a way to get the air from the front of your car.

thanks for all the replies!

I was following my air intake hose out from the carb. it already goes out of the engine bay, in front of the front left wheel hub. the hose design is garbage though, and the air path is contorted through a few 90 degree turns. is there any easy way to make a smoother intake path?

could I take out the stock circular filter and housing and put in an overall better flowing intake system all together, or would it be more trouble than it's worth?

Go to the scrap yard and get some intake hose off some other engines. Piece them together in a straighter or at least smother flowing line. Get it out of the fender which is a low pressure area and get it to the front of the car in the line of on coming air. It's really easy. Just takes come crafting and time.
Overall better

Add a hood scoop or try cowl induction
