Starter Contacts

By process of emilination I have come to the conclusion that my problem is the starter contact inside. Now someone suggested I replace the contacts but when I called toyota it tells them that for that year they are not avaliable... that either means they are right, or more commonly they are wrong...

Wondering if anyone has had to do it to an 89 corolla sr5, or I would assume the sedans of that year would be the same.. and how many bolts hold the starter in since I can't really see in there to well, so I'd rather know so I can feel around.

Two bolts hold in starters on most cars. Here is Autozones' DIY:

As for the contacts I'm not sure, you may be able to try a alternator and starter rebuild shop for the parts.

This place carries the Denso starter contacts if you find out the part numbers:

I'm not sure if Denso made the starters on the 89 Corolla SR5 though.

In this link the contact part numbers for a 92-97 Corolla are 28226-16130 and 28226-74070. I know you have an 89 but it would be somewhere to start from if you get a dealer parts person who wants to do some digging. I entered those numbers in an online Toyota parts dealer and they come up as good. You probably almost need to pull starter and get part number off it and that would direct you to the right parts kit.

Here is a link for the online Toy parts dealer. Enter a part number in the search and it will give you a price.
