Transmission Fluid

I hope someone can help me here. I have an AE86, with a T50 tranny. The bolt for adding transmission fluid into the manual transmission has no edges left on it, and is seized ....I guess it was rounded off over the years by previous owners. Anyway, is there another way of adding fluid to the tranny? I heard that I can add it in through where the shifter is...is this right? Also, can someone confirm the location of the drainage hole/bolt...

Thanks

Eugene

get some bolt extractors and use the best size, then get a new fill plug and a new drain plug if that one is also chewed off.

possibly, but it could be in a spot where getting leverage on them is hard. the bolt extractors are reverse fluted and work awesome. the harder you work, the harder it grabs and the good sets are impact rated!

you have to put a hole in the bolt for that first i think. what i linked goes over whats left of the head and grabs that.

Thanks to everyone who replied. Unfortunately the head of the bolt is (Or was !) 24mm, and there are not many bolt extractors that size. I have tried all of my tools to lock onto it, but there is just not enough room for the tool to completly grab around the bolt head.

I did manage to drain the fluid...only about 3/4 of a litre came out, and tightened the drain plug back on. I did find a hole where the gear shift enters the tranny, and carefully pushed a wire in to see if it goes all the way into the tranny, and it did. So I placed a long thin tube on the end of the gear oil bottle, and let it slowly flow into it. I will remove the drain hole tonight and see if clean tranny fluid comes out..........Anyone done this before? There's a lot of praying and finger-crossing in my garage at the moment.....

Thanks again

Eugene
