can any one give me a guess at what a completely rebuilt 4afe with a header and complete exhaust, cold air intake, ported and polished head, and ported intake manifold? right now it should have about 100 even, give a little bit for the bad rings and poor motor condition.
yeah i agree with ren... Back when i had my old 7a i couldnt do crap with the motor...those motors really are the definition of ecomotor...they are not mod freindly at all!
every good mod takes a while to figure out before everyone else does it. how many 20v swaps do you see in and ae92? not to many modded moderately built 4afes, everyone swaps, and i want to be diff. just the same as everyone has civics, but you dont see near as many older corollas
Try to be different all you want, somebody here had a rather well built NA 4A-FE, and despite his best efforts, really didn't go much beyond the 110-120hp range (flywheel) until it blew up. His name was something like "TheOtherCorolla"
People use the 4AGE for a reason.

My project has been comming along a little slower then wished but here are some ideas that i will hopefully be doing;
Bore tb to 62mm(2.5")
port match everything
polish everything including intake runners down to the valves
shave valve stems(intake)
30 degree back cut valves
5 angle valve job(intake) 3 angle(exhaust)
hot up the cams a little while maintaining lift or even .5-1mm increase(havn't thought of a good grind yet)
maybe raise comp to 10.5:1
I work in a machine shop so most of the work can be done myself. If i couldn't do it myself i wouldn't even think about it because the cost would be far too much. along with a custom cai and a full 2.5" exhaust from head to toe im hoping to put about 130hp to the ground.
to doo all this i will need a stronger clutch and new flywheel, fpr, injectors, and an eco tune from Toyota (i know a guy so price should be good plus i want to pass emissions) So what i'm saying is if you want to be different it'll cost you time and money.
i'll be interested to see the results, who bored the TB for you? i've been looking around on the side for a larger TB to see if theres any difference with that and the safc2 i need to get installed (when time permits)
Not to steal the thread. I'll be boaring it myself at work. I don't know if the tb itself will permit a 62mm boar. The next best option would be a 56mm boar which is just under 2.25" i would imagine the gains would be minimal without at least a port matched throttle body to intake manifold and a polished intake manifold. you might see a slight decrease in lower end torque and hp but the upper end should make up the difference in torque and hp. if you were doing something like drag racing you might make up your 60ft loss by the end of your set of redline shifts. I'm not sure.
alright, thanks. if i can find something at a junkyard that bolts on from another toyota i'll try it. otherwise i'll leave it alone. the yard by me has free admission AND half priced sundays!
all i want is a well rounded motor with some snap, so i dont get laughed at by the honda guys who think they are big stuff, when all they have is a D16z6

You just described a 4age.
And a guess at the cost, alot more than the same power from a 4age.
I'm not anti-FE but IMO it just doesn't make sense to do what your proposing.
