Automatic Tranny Question

Hi folks!

I checked the search feature and didn't find my answer, so I thought I'd ask here. I have a 92 Corolla with the 3 spd auto xmission. Yesterday, I drained the transaxle and the tranny from the pan. I serviced it with oil, but didn't service the transaxle resevoir. I know I screwed up royally and probably trashed the tranny, but I can't find where to fill the transaxle! My haynes manual shows a picture where it should be, but I can't find it on the xmission. I only serviced the xmission at the dipstick fill point.

Ok, after looking in the opposite area of where the Haynes manual said to go, I found it! Now I'm curious exactly how much fluid goes in there. I haven't checked the haynes manual yet but if I find it in there, I'll just say thanks for your help and this awesome site anyway!!!

I think you fill it to the bottom edge of the fill hole but don't go by me alone.

Ok, folks! I found it! 1.5 quarts. When I drained it, it just had a dribble, so I'll give it my best shot to fill it and hope for the best. Even without a reply, this site is absolutely the best!!!

John, when you say you drained both, you mean you took out 2 plugs from the bottom, right? Then you have to fill the transaxle with 1.5 qts. But it shouldn't have a dribble when you took off the drain plug on the side cover, their should no oil in it...

Fill from the side plug. Drain from the bottom plug. When filling from the side plug, the diff is full when the excess oil starts to drain out of the side plug hole. If you removed the side plug with diff full of oil, some oil will drain out (perhaps a dribble). The diff is drained from the bottom plug and when removed all the oil will drain out.

One last question.

What size socket or wrench for the differential
fill bolt?

Thanks again, guys! Once again, I figured it out.

It's all serviced and seems to run well. Originally, I drove the car about 20 miles and then the tranny started whining and bucking. I had my wife tow me home and started on the problem. I took it for a test drive after servicing the differential and took it up to 55 mph and so far-so good. I'll give it a good long drive tomorrow to see how she performs when hot.

Thanks for the help, guys!
