95 Corolla Weight

Hello everyone,

I just finished installing a new audio system in my car, added a whole lot of extra weight. I put in about 80+ pounds of deadening and a 50+ pound subwoofer.

Now a 95 Corolla is not a very powerful/heavy car to begin with. Despite what many people say about the effects of deadening, I can definitely tell a difference between before and after. I believe the car has a little better handling now, but it also accelerates slower.

Basically, when I have a passenger and start going up a hill, I start praying that I'll make it to the top without them realizing how much the car is struggling.

So I come here, asking if anyone has any advise for me. If there's any part of the car I can take of for instance (that maybe weighs around 100 pounds...) Or even if there's anything I can buy that might improve things for me performance wise.

I'm up for any suggestion (except taking out anything drastic like the AC or something). I read awhile ago somewhere that a guy ditched around 60 pounds taking off a useless muffler cover or something. Just wondering if anything like that exists on my car.

Thanks for the help.

Performance. That's the trade off for having better sounding acoustics in the car, I would just leave things as they are as there is no cheap way around it in an underpowered car such as this.

This sounds like something stupid and is not in any way a suggestion but more of a question:

The hoods on these cars (especially the older ones, I have a 97 Prizm and a 96 Corolla) weigh a LOT. I don't really see how a hood protects you from any kind of crash either, other than keeping the engine bay safe from foreign objects.

Can you honestly replace the hood with a LOT lighter alternative, like say carbonfiber (very expensive) or hell, even ABS plastic?

^ABS would have to be custom, which even cost more. The carbon fiber is at around $500 for this car, and even that, it's probably around 10-15 lbs less than stock. The hood on the 7th gen corolla is actually not as heavy, my mom has a 99 camry, and when i opened up the hood, NOW THAT IS HEAVY!

Keefe, I think you need to tune your car, something is wrong if you can't haul 2 person + you in your corolla. Technically, all your stereo equipment is equivalent to an average person's weight.

I've almost finished striping out my ae101 trueno, to be a race car.

So that's all inteior panels, rear seats + belts, all under seal, removed A/C. And I'm just trimming back excess wiring now.

All in all I think I've pulled out about 100kg of parts,

but the trade off? my god is it noisy. So in short no, not alot that can come out of them if they're road cars.

Also, the bonent on my car is not too bad really, I've felt alot heavier.
(I'm still going to strip it all down and use bonnent pins.)

The under seal / sound deadening weighed the most, then the A/C.
Everything is pretty light after that.
