Well, first and foremost the brakes. I need to replace my brakes... and I beleive I have to replace EVERYTHING. Rotor, calipers, pads, for the front and (not sure about drumbrakes) but everything the rear drumbrakes need. I was wondering if anyone here knew a good website or source to get all those parts.
Also, my front headlights are brown!!! They are dirty.. i was wondering if anyone nkow of a way to get them all nice and clean and clear. As I noticed that the passenger side is very dirty and disrupting the light much more than the left headlight is.
I would go to AutoZone if I were you or something similar. I just went and got all new brake components for the front of mine today actually. As for the headlights, there is a type of polisher head attachment for a drill that takes it all off in no time at all. I did it the hard and cheap way and used concentrated windsheild cleaner and so far i only got 1 done lol
really think so? I'm really not looking for anythign special but just trying to find things cheap. My prizm has 140k miles and I know for a fact that the brakes haven't been change for a raelly really really really maybe never time. The rotors have grooves on them, do I need to get calipers aswell?
If you can find a place to turn the roters (removes the lip) for fairly sheap thats a cheaper route if its too much you better off getting your stuff on good ole ebay.com. As far as the headlights they sell a cleaning kit for them that will run you about 20 bucks at advanced auto parts store. I am not sure if they are compatiable or not... However, you could also check the junkyards for the whole braking system,
also, do you guys know if i'm missing anything else? As far as any parts I SHOULD replace while i'm doing the brakes? Anything for the rear brakes because i'm not too familiar w/ them
I just did my front brakes on my 1999 Corolla, the pads from the dealer were the best price $66.00 and had the rotors turned by a local repair shop for $15.00 each.
The rotors were within spec so they could be resurfaced.
ah great, thanks a lot!! this is the kinda feedback I was looking for. So besides the two things i posted rotors/pads/drums, is that all I need? Thanks a lot!
thanks a lot, i just thought I needed calipers because someone suggested it, but they do work so I guess tehre isn't any reason to.
just wet-sand the headlights with progressively smooth emery cloths...1000, 1500, 2000 grit will do..and top it all off by applying some Mother's plastic polish and a little elbow grease
worked gr8 for me and only took like 15minutes for each side and u don't need to take it off the car to do it either...my headlights been looking like new again for almost a year and no signs of discolouration returning

And do they look as smooth as stock would be? This I'm tempted to try...
just keep a constant supply of water on it while you're sanding..apply very slight pressure in a side-to-side motion and NEVER in circles (or else you'll leave swirls in the plastic lens)
rub till u don't feel any resistance between the emery and the headlamp lens and then move on to the next smoother grit...when it dries, the discolouration will be gone but it'll look a bit frosted
some folks use a very fine rubbing compound between the wet-sanding and the plastic polish stages, but to me there's no difference between the two results so I skipped this step
